Electrification of the Frigo Group’s Truck Fleet has begun

The electrification of the Frigo Group’s trucks has begun. With this move, the frozen food logistics provider is anticipating legislation that will take effect on January 1, 2030: as of that date, all exemptions will expire, and diesel trucks will no longer be allowed to operate in zero-emission zones.

According to Margreet van Elderen, the electrification of all trucks aligns seamlessly with the sustainability strategy of the Frigo Group, which has locations in Nieuw-Vennep and Geldermalsen. “We’re not rushing into this. We’ve already ordered an electric DAF box truck from Truckland (photo), which will be delivered next year. Starting with DAF, our drivers will also be testing electric tractor units from three brands in the coming months: DAF, Mercedes, and Volvo.”

Ever-Increasing Range
According to Van Elderen, the Frigo Group deliberately chose not to rush the electrification of its truck fleet. “We waited until the teething problems had been ironed out. Because battery capacity is increasing rapidly, the range of electric trucks is getting longer and longer. That will be one of the criteria on which we’ll base our decision, in close consultation with our drivers.”

Our Own Charging Station
Van Elderen expects a decision to be made by the end of this year, after which the electrification of the tractor-trailer fleet can be implemented in phases starting in 2027. “The electric tractors we’re going to test still need to be charged off-site, but when the electric box truck is delivered next year, we want to be able to charge it here. Eventually, Frigo Nieuw-Vennep will have its own charging station. Fortunately, our contracted capacity is sufficient to accommodate at least six charging stations.”

Wanted: Drivers (m/f)
By the way, the Frigo Group is still looking for a talented and motivated driver (m/f) for its new electric box truck. Does working as part of a close-knit team within a modern family-owned business sound like something you’d enjoy? If so, please send an email to info@frigogroup.com or call: 0252-419017.
